When talking about comics, these are some questions that might occur to you:

I suspect you’ll find no answers to any of these questions. The only thing I can really say is that this is a collection of images that I really like, and that things are happening in them that aren’t really happening anywhere else.

Comics are also a little bit like science fiction or breakfast cereal or, erm, computer games, where you have to add loads of caveats otherwise you get really intense people furious with what you say. So I have to give these disclaimers first: One is that I’m not trying to claim that comics are an art form. I don’t care. I call them comics not graphic novels—I don’t think that really matters. I don’t read any hippy comics really. I don’t really read David Boring or 8 Ball or Maus or black and white stuff. I only really read comics about omnipotent demigods, and soldiers, and people who wear thongs and stuff.

Mostly I like pictures and that is why I like comics. So I’ll get on with it.

[Of course, if people who make comics want to call themselves artists that is fine. It just doesn’t really have anything to do with what I’m saying—same with graphic novels. I should also say that I’m pretty glad that hippy comics are in the world, I just don’t read them.]
